Repair and Diagnose Belling
Appliances.
Belling Fan ovens and washing
machines - Some useful advice.
Before examining or
investigating any failure or malfunction of any electrical appliance it must first be isolated (disconnected)
from the electricity supply.
Fault: - Oven
dead
Very often people call out a
Domestic appliance engineers and are then faced with the cost of a call out charge for his time only to be told
that there is nothing wrong with their cooker. What has happened?
Usually one of
two things.
(1) Has the clock been inadvertently been taken of manual?
(2) The clock been set to the incorrect correct time and thinks it is not time to turn
on?
(3) If for any reason the power supply to the appliance has disrupted the clock will need to
be reset before cooker will operate.
If after checking for the above the oven is still dead.
The appliance needs to be
examined by a suitable qualified person.
What faults a domestic
appliance engineer would look for:-

- Tripped Residual current device (RCB) ( Appliance earth
leaking)
- Tripped Miniature circuit breaker (MCB) (Dead short on
appliance)
First of all engineer would do an earth leakage test on full appliance. (Called high ohm test) and (low reading ohm test
(continuity test)) between the conductors.
Oven completely
dead.
- Engineer would check for faulty control selector switch or pcb board (dependant on model)
……. Repair: - Engineer would replace pcb or switch
- Engineer would check for faulty variable thermostat (dependant on model) ……. Repair: -
Engineer would replace variable thermostat
- Engineer would check for faulty timer……. Repair: - Engineer would replace
timer.
Oven does not heat, but still
fan runs.
- Engineer would check for faulty fan element……. Repair: - Engineer would replace
element.*
*Engineer would check fan
speed before fitting new element, as partly seized up or faulty fan could have caused element
failure.
Fan not
running.
- Engineer would check for faulty fan motor……. Repair: - Engineer would replace fan
motor.
- Engineer would check fan motor circuits in switches or pcb (dependant on model)…….Repair:
- Engineer would replace switch or pcb
Fan
noisy
- Engineer would check for faulty fan motor (bearings worn out) …….Repair: - Engineer would replace fan motor.
- Engineer would check for coming fan in contact with distorted fan element. …….Repair: -
Engineer would replace fan element.
Belling washing machines
- Some useful
advice.
Failure to
spin
Again the same as with ovens people call out a Domestic appliance
engineers and are then faced with the cost of a call out charge for his time only to be told that they have
failed to check if the pump filter is blocked. If the machine has not emptied its water out it will not spin.
Again the same as with ovens
before examining or investigating any failure or malfunction of any electrical appliance it must first is
isolated (disconnected) from the electricity supply.
How to unblock the pump
filter.
Remove lower Kick plate (part of you kitchen units) this will then
expose the pump filter on the bottom front of the machine. CAUTION by removing the filter cover water will
immediately flood out onto the floor especially if the machine is full of water. (A washing machine engineer would pull the appliance
out and lean it back through 45° we
do not recommend that you do this. Pulling an integrated washing machine out and leaning it back should only be
attempted by a suitably qualified person) There is however another
way please consult your manufacturers instruction book.
Other reasons why machine
fails to spin.
Only one item of clothing in the machine.
The electronics recognize that it is out of balance, and will not let the machine spin. This
can be rectified simpley by adding more clothes to the drum.
